The best way to start an "About Evan" section is probably just to call him a bike dork. That might sum it up quite simply.

Evan's always been avidly into the cycling world and culture, and has always had an eye for giving back to the sport he loves and developing cycling further in Alberta.

Evan started racing mountain bikes at the age of 12, shortly after witnessing the infectiously fun and friendly atmosphere between competitors at the 24 Hours of Adrenalin mountain bike race in Canmore, AB. Compared to hockey, which he, like seemingly every other Canadian kid played, found the camaraderie between competitors and interesting and fresh change from the bitter rivalries found on the ice.

He thrust himself into the deep end of the sport almost immediately, entering the 24 Hours of Adrenalin on a 5 person team and racing in the entire Alberta Cup XCO calendar.

Since then, Evan has continued racing, branching out from XCO to include XCM, Endurance, Cyclocross and Road Racing. Some highlight races include:

  • 24 Hours of Adrenalin Solo

  • Furious 3 MTB Stage Race

  • Moab Rocks MTB Stage Race

  • 24 Hours of Light

  • Canada Cyclocross National Champs - Winnipeg

  • Cape Epic

Not just one to take from the sport he loves, Evan has an extensive and growing involvement in the cycling world.

He was a founding board member of the Devon Bicycle Association (DBA), a non-profit cycling club formed to facilitate fundraising and construction of the Riverview Mountain Bike Skills Park in Devon, AB. The club grew from a few members to a large club with a presence on the Alberta cycling scene, hosting numerous provincial level events and rides. Evan also assisted in coordination of the DBA's Bears Program, a youth development program. As a head coach, Evan also was in charge of expanding the Bears curriculum to expand the age range of the program up to 16.

Evan also has extensive experience as a race organizer:

  • Blizzard Bike Race - Alberta's First Ever Fat Bike Race

  • River Raid XC - Alberta Cup XCO Race

  • Bear Barrage - Alberta Trailblazers Series Youth Race

  • Alberta Summer Games Qualifier - Youth Race
