Stage 4; 105km's, 2160m off climbing
In case you don't know, Evan had to withdraw today due to the compounding effects of the scorching hot temps we've had here in South Africa.
Toeing the line, with really nothing to lose, puts this race in a totally different perspective. The stage, "112"km's with 2150m of climbing, turned out to be my kind of stage. Strong winds, climbs suited to my legs, made for a personally good day.
There is almost no place to hide on the courses here in SA, except for the occasional, and small, stands of trees which are scarce.
There was some stiff winds today, but it seemed like if I had a headwind on one climb, the next one was a tail. I'm good with churning km's into the wind so I tried to up the tempo but was sure to keep an eye on my heart rate to not go too deep and hinder my chances to make it until Sunday.
Tomorrow is another shorter stage that will be full of singletrack. I'm staying positive and feeling better than I was the past few days.
Hopeful to have the legs tomorrow so I can give it another go.......
Stage 5: 85km, 2100m of climbing
