A spinathon is a peer-to-peer fundraising event where individuals pledge to ride their bike indoors on a trainer for a certain period of time, seeking pledges and donations from friends and family that go to supporting a cause.

The Spinathon 4 the Stollery, as the name suggests, will raise funds for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation in Edmonton, Alberta. However, it is also an excuse for Evan and Coleman, who are training for an 8 day mountain bike race across Africa, to spin with some company as they prepare. Evan and Coleman will be there spinning for the entire 8 hours (with a few breaks of course!), but fear not, YOU can ride as little or as long as you want up until 4 pm. 

So whether you want to sleep in, show up and ride 2 hours at 2 pm, show up first thing in the morning and ride for 2 hours before leaving to get on with your day at 10 am, OR want to show up first thing and stay the entire time with Evan and Coleman, there is an option for you.


The Quick When/Where

First and foremost, you should enter because it's a good cause! The profits go to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, which is reason enough in itself. 

But, you should also enter because it's a great way to beat out the winter 'blahs' and get some spinning in your legs. 

Why show up?

  • Your participation helps raise funds for the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation

  • Chance at draw prizes (TBD)

  • Access to the ATHX Protein Bar, selling smoothies and sports nutrition (charges apply)

  • Access to showers to clean up after your spin (bring a towel if you plan to shower after)




No! Even Evan and Coleman, who are there for the entire 8 hours, will take some breaks during. But you don't even have to stay the entire time if you can't. We're happy to welcome anyone, even if you can only stick around for an hour. 

The idea is to use this event to spur yourself on to ride longer than you ever thought you could. If that means you ride for 2 hours, great! If you stick around for the full 8, you're almost as foolish and Evan and Coleman, but at least you did it for a good cause! 

And no matter how long you are staying for, you can take breaks! In fact, it is suggested. Take a break and grab a smoothie or snack from the ATHX Protein Bar. You can ride as much or as little as you want! 


  •  Bike and Bike Trainer of your choice*

  • Exercise/Cycling Clothing

  • Shower Sandals and a Towel if you plan to shower after

  • Trainer Mat/Yoga Mat/Something to Put Under Your Bike/Trainer* 

*Bike & Bike Trainer - If you do not have access to a bike trainer but still want to participate, please contact us for options

*Nutrition - Please plan to bring anything you feel you will need to fuel yourself through the amount of time you plan to ride. There will be limited snacks provided, as well as smoothies and sports nutrition bars available for purchase at ATHX's Smoothie Bar to supplement your food needs. Running water and water fountains are available for refilling water.

*Trainer Mat - If you do not have a mat, please bring a towel to put under your bike and bike trainer. This is to protect the turf from sweat.



 To register for the Spinathon, please fill in your name and email below, then hit register.

Collecting pledges is easy! It can be done online through the link below, under your name, directly to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.


Once you've convinced someone to pledge your cause, the donation process is easy!

That link will walk them through the simple process of pledging under your name. 

If you are raising some funds the old fashioned way, please contact us to get a Pledge Form that will need to be filled out and turned in with the cash and/or cheques you have raised offline. 



The short answer is no. The minimum donation to spin is $40, and if that is all you raise, we will be glad to have you! Every little bit counts and helps make a difference. 

But since every little bit counts, you should set your sights higher - even if you fundraise an additional $5, that's a big deal!
